A Bupa-run care home in Harrogate says they have made recogniseable improvements after being given a one-star food hygiene rating in their December inspection.

Southlands Care Home, on Ripon Road, was told by the Food Standards Agency that 'major improvements' were necessary after their December 14 inspection.

The Bupa-run care home, which was rated as 'Good' during a CQC inspection in July, said it took immediate action to improve on their score.

Bupa said that these improvements have led to the home being upgraded to a three-star rating during a recent re-inspection, adding further action was being taken.

A spokesperson for the home said: "We have re-trained our kitchen staff to make sure we work to the best standards and have reviewed our documentation processes, as this was one of the main issues highlighted by the report.

"These improvements were recognized at a recent re-inspection and the home has been upgraded to a 3.

“We have also established a residents committee who meet regularly and talk about what food they want in the home. We work with them to make sure we’re providing good quality food that reflects their wishes.

“The health and wellbeing of our residents is our top priority.”

The home has a total capacity for 68 residents and offers palliative, respite and nursing care as well as accommodating residents with Parkinson's.
