Lucy Morgan and her friends at Nidd House Farm are organising the 12-mile ride from Ripley Castle to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.

Lucy Morgan and her friends at Nidd House Farm are organising the 12-mile ride from Ripley Castle to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.

The 19-year-old said: “It’s an issue close to our hearts and it has affected so many close to us.

“My friend lost her mum to cancer and a family friend is currently going through chemo. As a group of girls we thought it affects so many woman close to us so it made sense to choose breast cancer to raise money for.”

Lucy had a breast cancer scare when she was just 16-years-old and had to have day surgery to have a lump removed.“I found a lump and went to the doctor who sent me straight to the hospital. I was terrified.”

Test results showed that the lump had been a benign fibroadenoma lump.

“I was lucky and it wasn’t cancer but when I sat in the waiting room and saw all the faces of people who weren’t getting good news it was really sad,” said Lucy.

“Everyone just looked so scared.”

The teenager added: “The doctor gave me a leaflet about fibroadenoma lumps which helped me understand it.

“The leaflet was made by Breast Cancer Care which made me realise just how much work they do.”

The girls have organised for the ride to start and finish from Ripley Castle Showground on July 28 and have got sponsorship from from Nidd House Farm in Killinghall, Hebden Wood Haylage and Ripon Farm Services.

Entry for the event costs £20 for adults and £12 for children.

The 12 mile ride will follow the bridleway through Cayton, Markington and Sawley.

The person who raises the most money will receive a prize, sash and rosette.
