£20,000-worth of Endoscopy equipment donated to Harrogate hospital

The Friends of Harrogate Hospital and Community Charity said they were delighted to see their latest donation, the new ERBE Electrosurgical Unit, in place.

The equipment cost £19,704 and was made possible by a generous donation to the charity by The Ian & Fay Elliot Trust.

Endoscopy Manager Lorraine Dyson and Endoscopy Sister, Grace Emovon, couldn't hide their delight at the equipment.

They said: "It is used for for many procedures involving cauterisation and biopsy. It will make procedures safer and quicker.

"Patients will no longer have to stay overnight as a general anaesthetic is not necessary when using this equipment thus saving very much needed bed space.

"It can also be used by other units. This is a modular unit and new modules can be added in the future.

The Friends also recently purchased beds for the unit which means more procedures can be carried out resulting in shorter waiting lists.

Since their first purchase in 1967, The Friends have raised £2million for a number of vital causes.

This year they raised £65,000 for much needed equipment not covered by the NHS and next year they will celebrate their 50th anniversary.
