A WOMAN from Harrogate was left in a serious condition in hospital after a horrific head-on crash on the A661 Wetherby Road.
The 46-year-old, driver of a black Astra, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital by ambulance after the crash at lunchtime on Wednesday. Police said she remains in a serious condition.
The driver of the other car, a 49-year-old man who had been heading towards Harrogate in a black Seat Leon, was uninjured in the accident.
Police are now appealing for witnesses, and in particular the driver of a dark-coloured horsebox, to come forward.
The driver had stopped at the scene of the crash near Plompton and spoken to those involved, before continuing on their way to Wetherby when paramedics arrived.
Police said they were very keen to speak to the driver and passengers of the horsebox and were asking them to get in contact by calling 0845 6060247.
The collision, reported to police at 12.50pm, closed the road for several hours so that investigators could examine the scene.
Diversions were put in place at the Kestrel roundabout and the Rudding Lane junction, until the road was reopened at 4.30pm.
