COULD the next Micah Richards, Seb Hines or Elliot Kebbie pull on a Harrogate Town shirt in the future?

Well the Blue Square North club certainly hope so after announcing a link-up with Wetherby High School, which will start in September.

The club will provide budding footballers with the chance to complete a BTEC Level 3 in Sport Development at the school, whilst playing for its newly formed academy side.

Trials for the academy team will take place in April and the deadline for applications is March 23. The side will compete in the Conference Youth Alliance League and FA Youth Cup in the 2012 / 2013 season.

Wetherby Road boss Simon Weaver said: “We have already proven that we like to give youngsters a chance in our first team squad and the academy will increase our chances further of producing more home-grown players. It is a great opportunity for both players and coaches to really create something exciting at Harrogate Town.”

Richards, Hines and Kebbie were all pupils at Wetherby High School before moving onto bigger things.

Headteacher Andrea Barnes hopes the new partnership will be a stepping stone for more success in the future: “This is a fantastic development for learning and partnership in the community. We are especially pleased to be working with such a forward looking club as Harrogate Town,” she said.
