Harrogate has featured in many polls over the years, from the UK’s best place to sleep to one of the top ten most glamorous places to live.
Being among the coolest spots in the country may be unexpected, but in the latest list to feature the town, published in the Daily Telegraph, Harrogate’s Montpellier Hill is named as one of the coolest streets in the UK.
Coming number 12 in the list, the street was recognised for being the best of the spa town, with a wealth of independent shops and cafes, crowned with Harrogate’s synonymous treasure, Bettys, just a short walk away.
Manager at Bettys Harrogate Hazel Bone said: “It’s a delight and a surprise to be in the spotlight again so soon after the Grand Depart. The window tables at Bettys looking out onto Montpellier Hill and The Stray are always most in demand. The view is so lovely.
“It does feel like the world’s eyes are on Harrogate at the moment and we hope this latest accolade will encourage even more visitors to our beautiful town.”
Montpellier Hill was beaten to the top spot by Chiltern Street in London, Victoria Street in Edinburgh, and Redchuch Street, also in London.
Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones said: “Recent publicity during the Grand Depart really showed us off at our best so I am not surprised we are winning accolade after accolade.
“The country is seeing that which we all know about Harrogate – fantastic atmosphere, beautiful buildings, welcoming people and a great cultural, sporting and floral offering.
“With thousands of jobs dependent on hospitality and tourism, this kind of recognition can only do us good.”
