Not only is The Stray in Harrogate set to rock this summer, among the bands doing so will be talented young local musicians.

The headliners for this year’s Harrogate Fake Festival on Saturday, July 23, will be world-class tribute acts to Queen, Kasabian and U2.

But, as part of a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Fake Festivals, there will also be support slots for five local acts.

Purple Mafia, Strangers in Paradise, Bad Asteroids, The Deadstones and The Superlatives have all been hand-picked by Danni Saxton, licensee for Harrogate Fake Festival, to perform on the main stage.

Danni said: “It is a lengthy task selecting support bands for the festivals, and support submissions start rolling in from September 2015 onwards.

“We are very fortunate to receive hundreds of applications to perform on our main stage, and we do listen to each submission. There is no set criteria for choosing the artists, we just have a listen to them, check out their social media, and then decide if their sound is right for our event.”

Purple Mafia will be warming up the stage for the main tributes, with their lively mix of songs.

This five-piece original pop rock band were still youngsters at Ripon Grammar School when they won the annual AMP Awards at the Royal Hall in Harrogate.

Instrumentally-impressive Strangers In Paradise recently grew from a three-piece to a four-piece and were once described by the Harrogate Advertiser as “Harrogate’s answer to The Mars Volta.”

Opening this year’s Harrogate Fake Festival will be The Superlatives, another AMP Awards finalists who are inspired by Oasis, The Who, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys and The Stone Roses to name a few.

Also appearing will be two local bands that put the funk in rock - Bad Asteroids and The Deadstones.
