Harrogate town centre was hit by a power cut affecting 1,861 people at 4.05pm today.
After half an hour the number of people affected dropped to 624.
Northern Powergrid stated on their website that the issue would be resolved by 7.30pm.
A Northern Powergrid spokesman said: “We are hoping to have the issue resolved soon, though the timeframe is just an estimate.
“We are not aware of what caused the powercut at the moment.”
Andy Wyatt of Harrogate House of Carpets said:”We lost power for about five or six minutes, ten at most.
“I eventually gave up and closed up the shop to go home and while I was driving away I saw the lights of the shop come back on in my rear-view mirror.”
Helen Cartlidge of Harrogate International Centre said: “We did have a slight dip in power but it only lasted a second before the lights came back on.”
Matt Dickinson tweeted: Has #harrogate become third world with these random power losses?
Last Christmas the opening night of a pantomime performance of Sleeping Beauty at Harrogate Theatre was cancelled half way through the performance due to power cuts.
