Dog-owners are being urged to ensure their dogs are protected, following a reported outbreak of contagious kennel cough in the town.
Dogs can pick up the condition by coming into contact with affected animals; they do not have to visit a kennel to become infected.
The treatment is not part of standard immunisations, and owners are urged to contact their vet to seek appropriate protection.
Kim Metcalfe of Pooches Galore said: “A few dogs have come down with kennel cough.
“The problem with the condition is that people think kennel cough is only picked up at kennels, when in fact dogs can pick it up without being in kennels, and just by being in contact with one another.”
