Ugandan mask to grace town coffee shop
A CEREMONIAL MASK, hand crafted and decorated by villagers in Ntungamo, Uganda, will be visiting the Wetherby branch of Costa Coffee today, Friday, as part of a fundraising campaign to build a school in the remote village.
The mask is touring the country, spending one day in each of 171 franchised Costa stores.
Staff in Wetherby will provide face painting to young visitors to their store today and are offering a delivery service to local businesses in return for a donation.
Customers will also be able to sign a poster which eventually will be sent back to Uganda with the mask.
Says Wetherby branch manager Steph Upperton: “We’re excited about the mask coming to our store and hope we raise enough to build a school in Ntungamo.”
The Costa Foundation, which raises money to improve the well-being of coffee growing communities, is hoping each store will raise at least 400 in pursuing a national fundraising target of 60,000.
Set up in 2006, the Foundation has already contributed 678,000 to building and improving schools in different countries, providing jobs for 120 teachers and investing in clean water supplies.
After its day in Wetherby the mask will go on to Costa branches in Leeds.
Today’s free delivery service will be available between 12 noon and 3pm by e-mailing:
costa.wetherby@yahoo.com or by calling the Wetherby branch.
