Two sides of the coin on road repairs

YET again road works and traffic problems are at the forefront of the news.

The heavy-handed approach by workers carrying out the town centre road surface repairs seems to have irritated everyone with the lack of sufficient notice given and ongoing chaos for drivers who weren’t aware of the start of the works.

The work will continue throughout August so residents should take note of where and when the repairs are taking place and make sure they plan well in advance if they’re going anywhere.

Work will be done in the evenings and of course, it has been timed to avoid the school term when at least our roads are a bit quieter.

Meanwhile, in Calutt residents are worried about the increased use of the narrow road as a rat run or short cut for motorists.

Low Bridge is surely a ‘must’ for road safety measures being so narrow and lying as it does at the bottom of the steep inclines of Blands Hill and Briggate.

A public consultation has been carried out on Forest Moor Road with strict speed limits imposed.

Now is the time to look at Calcutt and this busy entrance road into Knaresborough to consider what can be done to help protect pedestrians and slow down traffic.
