Two killed in head-on crash

TWO people have been killed in a head-on crash on the A64 at Tadcaster.

The male driver of a black Yamaha R1 motorcycle, and his pillion passenger, a woman, were thrown from their bike after colliding with a car at about 7.30pm on Wednesday evening.

An air ambulance landed at the scene, on the onslip of the A64 eastbound from the A162, but both were pronounced dead by paramedics.

They are believed to be from the Bradford area of West Yorkshire area, their next of kin are still being informed.

The male driver of the car they were in collision with, a local man driving a green Vauxhall Vectra, escaped without injury.

Police believe the motorcyclists were part of a six-strong group, heading towards Tadcaster from Boston Spa. They are appeling to anyone with information to call 0845 606247.
