Two held after youth crashes mum's car

TWO Wetherby youths were remanded in police custody for more than 16 hours this week after one of them stole his mother's car and crashed it into a fence.

The two male teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were reported to police by the 15-year-old’s mother after she discovered her car had been taken from her home without her consent.

Wetherby PCs Martin Geary and Andy Emmett were immediately alerted to the offence and responded to a report the car had been spotted at Wetherby Racecourse.

When the officers arrived they discovered the car had been flipped over at speed and had crashed into a fence leaving it a complete write-off with substantial damage.

Both youths were arrested and, after being kept in a cell at Stainbeck Police Station in Leeds overnight, they were both charged with an aggravated TWOC (taking without owner's consent).

One of the youths was also charged with driving with no licence or no insurance. Both have been bailed to appear before Leeds Youth Court on March 12.

A spokesman at Wetherby Racecourse confirmed a fence in the parking area had been damaged and a post had had to be replaced as a result of the incident.
