The beautiful sights of springtime
AS NEW shoots begin to appear in gardens, fields and verges around the district, there are plenty of opportunities to enter the Wetherby News's photography competition.
This week, our photographer Alison Raven captured this shot of snowdrops blooming in East Keswick - a sign spring has finally arrived.
With a top prize of a year-long family or couple pass to Harewood House, worth 110, plus the winning picture printed by Harrogate-based Your Art on Canvas, entries have been flooding in since we launched the year-long contest in January.
Each month we pick a winner who is then put forward to be judged against 11 other winners from throughout the year.
An overall winner will be picked at the end of December and the 11 runners-up will each receive a 20 voucher from Your Art on Canvas.
Any beginners looking for inspiration and advice have the chance to join a photography workshop led by Chris Ceaser at Harewood House from next month.
There will be one full-day workshop each month, beginning on April 30, with advice on camera set up, focus and composition technique around the grounds of the stately home.
The course is ideally suited to digital SLR users wishing to improve or learn landscape photographic techniques and a tripod would greatly enhance the learning process. Some tripods are available to hire by calling Chris on 07920 044094.
The course costs 95 including coffee on arrival, a sandwich lunch and an exclulsive opportunity to photograph inside the state rooms, which is not usually permitted.
