Teenagers robbed at knifepoint

CALLOUS thieves threatened a teenage boy at knife-point as they robbed him of his iPhone in a Harrogate playpark.

The 16-year-old boy had been with a friend in the park off Crowberry Drive, showing him his new mobile phone as three men played football nearby.

Seeing the phone, the three stopped their game and, demanding that he hand over the gadget, one of them opened his coat to show the youngster a knife.

The terrified teenager handed over the iPhone, which costs around 500 to buy. His friend, also 16, was pushed against the wall by another of the bullies, who told him to empty his pockets. When he refused, the three ran off in the direction of Crowberry Drive.

Police say the young victims were understandably shaken by the incident, which happened at about 8.30pm on Sunday evening. They are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who saw the three robbers, to get in touch.

The three men are described as white, aged around 18 and between 5ft 10ins to 6ft in height.

One was wearing a white zip-up sports jacket while another was wearing a black hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms. The third was wearing a black hooded jumper with red lines on it and he was also wearing glasses. They also had a football with them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Rebecca Smith at Harrogate CID on 0845 6060247, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
