MORE than 130 people took part in the first ever Parkrun Harrogate.

Organisers said they were pleased with the turn-out, particularly because there was a half-marathon taking place in York on the same day.

Parkrun is an international event where runners can take part in an organised 5km time trial.

Harrogate’s run will take place every Saturday morning on the Stray and is open to anyone to either join in or volunteer as a marshal.

the bonfire mess is still there and as for the fairground there never seems to be any restoration activity on the site even though rent gets paid. at the end of the day i don't believe the runners will have any adverse effect and it's much safer than running on the roads or pavements.

@ dog cap. Far more damage is done to the Oatlands Drive area of the stray by the 3 annual events which take place there every year ie. the Whit and August fairs and the bonfire. During the course of the fairs there is usually a considerable amount of rain which causes the ground to be churned up even more which surely makes running even on a regular basis totally insignificant.
