Students learn about extremism through drama
STUDENTS at Boston Spa School have been learning about extremism thanks to a performance by GW Theatre Company.
One Extreme to the Other, written by Mike Harris, tackled racial, religious and political extremism.
Dave Jones, creative director at GW Theatre, said: "One Extreme to the Other uses a theatre-led approach to help all communities to become less vulnerable to those with extreme views.
"We aim to do this by engaging them in a broader dialogue and debate about identity, society, class, community and personal responsibility. The play has been received very well and is making a real impact in changing people's perceptions and behaviours."
The project was researched and developed with young people, teachers, local government agencies and officers, skilled professionals and people in communities in order to help young people understand, resist and challenge extremism.
The play stresses what unites people rather than divides them and asks the audience to consider how to work together in the future.
