Staveley and Copgrove

Allerton Park Incinerator Scheme: Many people will be aware that by a majority decision, North Yorkshire county councillors have voted against holding a public meeting to discuss waste management plans which include proposals to build a controversial waste incinerator costing £900m at Allerton Park Quarry.

As well as the incinerator, the site will have a 260 foot high chimney, which will dominate the countryside for miles around. Instead of a public meeting the county council have offered more information and an invitation to 11 parish councils to meet the decision makers. It is therefore important to make your views known to Staveley and Copgrove Parish Council as soon as possible either by email to pc@staveley-yorks.org.uk or by speaking to any parish councillor.

Walkingham Hill 100 Club: The Walkingham Hill 100 Club raises money through a monthly draw for the individual churches in Arkendale, Copgrove, Farnham, Scotton and Staveley which make up the United Benefice of Walkingham Hill. Anyone who wishes to join the club and by so doing help their local church, should contact the promoter Frank Shires on 01423 340687. The latest draw saw two winners from Arkendale and two winners from Staveley.

Attractive Gardens: Many favourable comments have been made by residents and visitors over the summer about the attractiveness of the gardens surrounding the pensioners bungalows on Main Street near the village green. The lady who voluntarily maintains the gardens is Mrs Olga Whitaker and her hard work is much appreciated.
