Singing Farmers set to entertain Darley audience
THIS year's Singing Farmers concerts are proving popular with more than 700 tickets already sold.
Two out of the three Yorkshire concerts are close to selling out, but there are still places available at the Darley Memorial Hall event, to be held on March 28.
The concert comprises music from singing agricultural workers from across the county, and will raise money for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute (RABI).
RABI's Sally Conner said the Singing Farmers have become a Yorkshire institution in their own right, and are deserving of honour for their charity work.
“We are so grateful for all of the time and effort put in by these very gifted men who go all over the county raising much needed funds," she said.
Journalist Chris Berry was the inspiration behind the concerts and started the band in 2004. Other members include Tony Richards, a Glaisdale farmer, Ken Jackson, a cattle man from near Doncaster, Phillip Holden, a farm supply shop owner in Wensleydale, and Charles Marwood, a sheep farmer from near Sheriff Hutton, along with Lloyd Lockwood.
“The concerts themselves are fantastic and it is wonderful that we are able to take them to some new venues this time,” said Sally Conner.
There are four concerts in all through March, when the Singing Farmers will be performing at Appleby Public Hall on Sunday, March 14, Kirkbymoorside Memorial Hall on Sunday, March 21, Allertonshire School in Northallerton on Friday, March 26, and Darley Memorial Hall on Sunday, March 28.
Tickets cost 12 and a cheque payable to RABI should be sent to Singing Farmers Tickets, 2 Elmete Croft, Scholes, Leeds LS15 4BE.
You should also send an SAE and a note of for which concert you require tickets.
