Shadwell woman celebrates garden award
A SHADWELL woman is celebrating after winning the best small garden competition in Shadwell for the second year in a row.
She has filled a small space in Ash Hill Gardens with perennials, small trees and fragrant plants like sweet peas, phlox and oriental lilies. A pretty pergola gives height to the garden and a small pond is stocked with fish and an occasional visiting frog.
The small garden class was open to plots of less than 150 square metres and the large garden class was anything bigger. That category was won by Richard Wells. A third class for best hanging basket/container was won by Anthony Faulkiner (correct). A special merit prize is being awarded to David Ward.
All will receive their trophies at Shadwell Flower Show on Saturday, August 21.
Judges for the garden competition included members of Shadwell Horticultural Society and well-known broadcaster Joe Maiden.
