Screwdriver robberies - appeal
Police in Harrogate are renewing the appeal for information and witnesses regarding the two robberies which occurred in the town on Tuesday 2 March 2010.
Detective Inspector Mark Pearson, of Harrogate CID, said: "The investigation into these robberies is still at a very early stage and I believe that not everyone who witnessed either incident has yet come forward.
"This is probably because they are unaware that they may hold vital information. I would urge anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious, even it seems trivial, to come forward."
This follows the arrest of five people from the Bradford area of West Yorkshire. They are three man aged 43, 23 and 20 and two women aged 20 and 44. They have all now been released on police bail while investigations continue.
The first robbery occurred at 9.18pm when two men entered the William Hill bookmakers on Leeds Road. The men threatened staff with a screwdriver and stole a quantity of money, before making off towards Hookstone Road.
Screwdriver
The second robbery occurred a short time later, at approximately 9.25pm, at the Total Garage also on Leeds Road.
A grey coloured Ford Mondeo pulled up on the forecourt of the adjacent premises and two men entered the shop, again threatening the assistant with a screwdriver before stealing cash from the till. The offenders made off onto Leeds Road in the grey Mondeo.
In both robberies the men are described as being white and wearing hooded tops which covered their faces.
Anyone who witnessed either of the robberies, knows anything about the identity of the men who committed the offences or who saw the grey Ford Mondeo in the area, is asked to contact Harrogate CID on 0845 6060247, quoting reference number 12100033104.
Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
