Scotton and Lingerfield

I HAVE just returned from a few days in our capital city and like many village folk cannot imagine what actually living amongst so many people must be like! Having said that, it's been 20 years since I was last there and certainly it is a different city. Pleasant to walk through with great public transport and much quieter roads due to the congestion charges for cars. A low profile but very evident Police presence in all areas where tourists thronged made one feel very safe even in the eveni

Cricket: Our two Scotton cricket teams continue to be in the top six of their respective Divisions in the Nidderdale League. If you haven't been down to their ground recently you will be in for a great afternoon or evening game of cricket. Saturdays and Wednesday evenings are the regular slots and the teams would be delighted to see you there.

Guy Fawkes: Dave and his staff at the Guy Fawkes Arms are continuing to make improvements to our village pub. New tables and chairs arrived recently in the refurbished restaurant along with extremely smart wine coolers! Garden furniture has been spotted in the car park so doubtless there will be some outside activity soon too. Quiz nights on Mondays continue to be well supported by locals and tourists alike so get along there and try to win the mounting jackpots.

Parish Council: Scotton Parish Council are to hold their next meeting on Monday, August 9 from 7pm in the village hall committee room. As I write this I have heard that our extremely hard working clerk, Keith Rothwell, is ill in hospital and take this opportunity to send him warmest wishes for a speedy recovery from all villagers, he has worked tirelessly for many years on the behalf of us all.

Church Service: The service this Sunday, August 8 is a joint Village service at St Thomas's starting at 9.30am.
