Girl Guides Brownies in Scarcroft: 24 Girl Guides, Brownies and their leaders from Dartmouth in Devon made an overnight stay at the Scarcroft village hall on Tuesday before moving on to the Girl Guide Centenary celebration 'Fusion' that took place in Harewood Park. Many thousands of Guides and Brownies attended the occasion from all over the world.
Scarcroft Ladies Luncheon Club: The August lunch as usual provided by Mary Fowler was followed by entertainment by Gifford Rolfe and Roy Kibbler. Half a laugh Half a cry. A performance and insight into the writing of songs and poems. Serious to silly sad to joyous and back again. Gifford Rolfe is an artist and songwriter. He has written, recorded and performed his music in theatres, clubs and festivals as well as for two BBC series of ‘Wordsmiths’. As a lecturer and art advisor for Wakefield MDC he has delivered countless courses and workshops. Roy Kibbler has been writing and performing for over 30 years. During that time besides being an art teacher, he has taught Adult Education creative writing courses. His poems have been published in a range of magazines and books. Mrs Margaret Midgley gave a vote of thanks. Next luncheon Monday, September 6 noon, Speaker Stuart Whitwell on ‘Radio Nostalgia’. All welcome.
