Rotary Club of Ripon

Assistant District Governor North, Em Lloyd-Davies, attended the club assembly last week when details of the proposed programme for the new Rotary year starting on July 1 were outlined by president elect Mike Williams and the new committee chairmen. The president's charities for the year would be Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Vision Aid Overseas.

Community and vocational activities would continue to include Youth Community Service Awards, support for Contact the Elderly, ‘daffodil delights’ and help with CVS Christmas parcel distribution. Links are proposed with local nursing homes and the Walled Garden together with liaison with the police. There would be funding for a carer's holiday and various fundraising events would be held.

Youth opportunities would include sponsorship of local students on youth leadership and Ocean Youth Trust courses together with literacy awards for Ripon primary school pupils and support for KidsOut.

Environment activities would include bulb planting on the daffodil bends with the help of local schoolchildren, grass cutting on Rotary Way, the appointment of a schools' liaison officer with projects such as sunflower growing, tree surveys and diaries, further work on local environmental issues and support for the carbon emissions scheme.

International and foundation projects would include continuation of the aquabox scheme, the ambassadorial students' weekend, a fundraising garden party in May and support for both the Yorkshire School in Sri Lanka and Rotary Foundation.

Fellowship activities would include a varied programme.

Health and safety procedures were in place for activities such as bulb planting and outings for the elderly.

The major fundraising event, the golf day, would continue together with car boot sales.

The club meet next Tuesday and the joint presidents' church service is at Allhallowgate Methodist Church on July 6.
