River rescue for trapped woman and child

A WOMAN and child were rescued by firefighters after getting into difficulty on the stepping stones at Bolton Abbey yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Fire crews from across North and West Yorkshire, including Skipton, York, Whitby, Richmond, and Bingley, were called out to try and help the pair.

The 44-year-old woman and the nine-year-old child had got stuck as the crossed the busy river at around 6pm.

Firefighters used a water rescue unit to bring them back to dry land.
