Power Yoga for the new year.
TO kickstart the new year, the Yorkshire Yoga Centre in Knaresborough is running introductory sessions of the latest fitness craze from America.
Three workshops in 'Ashtanga' otherwise known as Power Yoga will be held on Sunday, January 11 to raise money for the charity's disabilities programme.
The first workshop will be from 9am till 11am and is suitable for beginners. The second workshop from 11am till lpm is an Intermediate Ashtanga taster for people who have some experience with yoga. These two sessions will be performed at normal room temperature.
However, things hot up from 2pm till 4pm when a third 'hot' yoga session will teach a series of 26 postures performed in the studio heated up to 80-85F.
During the winter term, the heat will be increased each week until it is similar to the heat experienced in India where yoga started.
If you are concerned about any personal medical condition or have had heat problems before (heat stress, heat stroke), then please consult with your GP. People should bring their own yoga mats if they have one, a large bottle of water, hand towel, plus a six foot bath towel to put on top of the mat for the afternoon Hot Yoga session.
The events at the studio at Halfpenny Close, Knaresborough are 15 each or 25 for two sessions.
