Police launch horse crime scheme
A CAMPAIGN to reduce equine crime will be launched in the Wetherby district next month.
Wetherby Police Community Support Officer Dan Sillers is helping to set up Horse Watch, which will enable horse owners to protect their animals and equipment more effectively.
Similar to the district's successful Farm Watch scheme, police will send messages to members to alert them to suspicious activities in the area.
Horse Watch will be launched at the Great Yorkshire Show, where PCSO Sillers will give out information on the first two days, Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15.
He said: "Farms, liveries and horse owners who have their horses stabled in the Wetherby area will be able to contact me for a free membership pack.
"Once the livery or stable is signed up, we will go round with boards and stickers so people are aware that these horses and stables are signed up to the scheme."
Included in the pack will be a diagram of a horse, which owners can use to put on any recognisable markings which might help police track a horse if it were stolen.
For more information, contact PCSO Dan Sillers at Wetherby Police Station on 0113 285 5374.
