Bandstand: On Sunday, June 28 the Knaresborough Silver Band will give a concert at the Joe Longster Bandstand in Pateley Bridge starting at 3pm.

Pop Quiz: Test your knowledge of pop music from the past 60 years with this year’s Hampsthwaite Feast Quiz. 130 easy, cryptic or general knowledge questions on popular music artists and groups.

Entry forms cost 1 and are available at Pateley Bridge Post Office. There is a 20 prize for the winning entry. The closing date for entries is July 17.

Horse Show: The first Sunday in July will see the staging of the 3rd Annual Charity Horse Show at Pateley Bridge which raises money for the local High School. It is our aim that this event will enrich Nidderdale’s list of visitor attractions, as well as raising money for the local community.

The event is now firmly established on the Equestrian Calendar and the show is forecast to attract over 150 entrants with a variety of showing, jumping and fun classes.

Cake stall: The British Heart Foundation will have a cake stall on Pateley Bridge High Street on Saturday, June 27 from 8am onwards. There will be cakes, preserves, books and a tombola. The proceeds will go to the cardiac department at Harrogate Hospital.

Pateley Bridge CC Race Night: The club will be holding a Race Night at the Royal Oak, Pateley Bridge tonight, Friday, June 26.

Cake Stall: On Saturday, July 4 Pateley Bridge Cricket Club will have a cake stall in the High Street from 8am onwards.

Pateley Bridge Dance club: The next dance will be on Friday, July 3 at Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall, 8pm until midnight. Dancing to Doug on accordion. Entry 6 on the door to include supper.

There will be a raffle. Bring your own drink. All welcome. Proceeds to Age Concern/Help the Aged. Details from 01423 711197 or 01423 711642.

As well as the regular evening dances, the club also holds Tea Dances every Tuesday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.

Church services: Sunday, June 28: St. Michael’s Church, Wilsill 9am Holy Communion. St. Cuthbert’s Church 10.30am Family Eucharist. Glasshouses Methodist Church Sister Janet Durbin at 10.30am. Wilsill Methodist Church Holy Communion with the Rev. Nigel Waterfield at 10.30am.

Wath Chapel – Holy Communion with the Rev. Nigel Waterfield at 6.30pm. At the Roman Catholic churches Sunday Mass will take place at 10.30am at Pateley and at 9.15am at Menwith Hill.

Glasshouses WI: Our next meeting is on Wednesday, July 8 when Mr. Peter Fargher will tell us about Commemorative Plaques of Harrogate.

The competition will be a photo of a plaque. Our August outing on Tuesday, August 5 is to Beningborough Hall (NT) and Helmsley. If you would like to go – and anyone is welcome - please contact Mary Partridge on 712396.

Town Council: A meeting of the planning working group was held on Tuesday, June 16. The following has been taken from the draft minutes which are subject to confirmation.

Planning Matters: Decisions by Harrogate Borough Council: Miss E Ball. Cliff Farm, Fellbeck. Formation of outdoor riding arena for livery stables. Granted, subject to conditions.

Enforcement matters (Harrogate Borough Council): Cliff Farm, Fellbeck. Notice of possible breach of planning control received: use of indoor riding school as arborists store and use of land for storage of logs and parking of vehicles associated with arborist business.

Correspondence: Friends of Nidderdale Pool and Leisure Centre. A letter, dated June 9, had been received from the Chairman of the Friends indicating that they had found difficulty in recruiting new volunteers to serve on the Committee and inviting a Council representative to attend a General Meeting at 7.30pm on July 2 in the Council chamber. The aims of the meeting would be: to elect new committee members; to wind the organisation up or to put forward alternative options for the continuance of local representation on the Joint Management Board.

Agreed - that Coun Kerr represent Council at the General Meeting on July 2 and report back.

Council Business: Website: report from sub-group Coun Henderson summarised the recommendations of the sub group as follows:

(i) To send an official order to Parishcouncils.net for their Silver package. This had now been done.

(ii) To suggest a domain name of www.pateleybridge.org.uk;

(iii) To agree the main colour scheme as a mainly blue with green, similar to the town shield;

(iv) To choose additional features as follows: Contact Us form, Statistical information and Photo Gallery options.

Coun Henderson had been tasked with mapping out the contents of pages required.

Commuted sums: The clerk reported that two projects had been submitted for approval: Hedging at Sandy Lane and a new footpath on the Millennium Green. A further project would be submitted shortly on behalf of Pateley Bridge Cricket Club.

Ice cream licence: The Borough Council had contacted Skipton Creameries as requested to reinforce the arrangements for parking. The Council’s share of the fee agreed had been requested, and should be received shortly.

Flag flying: A Yorkshire flag, to be flown on Yorkshire Day (August 1) had been purchased at a cost of 5.49. A request had been received from Nidd Plus to fly the Old Workshop flag during the forthcoming Open Studios event. Unfortunately some of the time required coincided with a previous decision to fly the Union Jack between June 22-27 for Armed Forces Day.

agreed – to permit the flying of the Old Workshop flag on June 20, 21 and possibly on June 28.

Windmill: Coun Henderson said that the AONB had been unsuccessful in identifying any funding for the proposal to restore the Windmill. They had indicated that if Council wished to take a lead they would give support. Agreed – to include the issue of restoration for the Windmill on the next Agenda for Council.

Damage on Millennium Green: Coun Henderson said the Caretaker had discovered a lot of damage to the fencing around the bike track. Coun Geoff Linehan had inspected the damage with Sergeant Turner who had classified it as a crime.

Armed Forces Day: Councillors were to assemble at the Council Chamber at 10am on June 22, when District Coun Beer would play a salute. Inspector Breen had confirmed that the Union flag would be flown from the Police station. Similarly, St Cuthbert’s school had asked if they could borrow the Council’s spare Union flag.
