Nidderdale artist's prestigious USA exhibition

A NIDDERDALE artist is exhibiting her work at a prestigious event in America.

Moira McTague, a painter and print maker from Burnt Yates, has had two etchings accepted into the International Miniature Print Biennial, held at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, Connecticut.

The competition attracts artists from around the world, with judges this year viewing over 700 prints by 255 artists from 23 countries. Moira’s work is among 180 prints from 100 artists chosen for the exhibition.

The two prints selected are entitled Autumn Blackbird and Poppy Red and were inspired by watercolours that Moira had painted from her garden.

Moira said she was delighted to be accepted into the exhibition, particularly as the maximum size for prints was just two inches by two inches.

She said: “This is a tiny and challenging space in which to create an image,” adding: “To link with other artists from all over the world is very exciting.”

Moira has also recently become the new artist in residence at The March Hare Gallery in Ripon, and can be found there most Tuesdays and Thursdays, showing visitors how to create work on the gallery’s very own small etching press.

Moira said: “We are hoping to raise the profile of original printmaking. The gallery is showing a variety of work by contemporary printmakers as well as my own, and more work is arriving weekly.”

She added: “Having an etching press in the gallery and being able to talk to customers has already created great interest and people have commented on how different it is to actually see part of the process.”
