More volunteers needed to promote Brimham Rocks

MORE volunteers are needed to help welcome visitors to Brimham Rocks.

As part of a recruitment drive, a volunteer day is being held next weekend at the National Trust site, which attracts around 150,000 visitors a year.

Brimham Rocks currently has just two volunteers to welcome the hordes of visitors who come to explore its 400 acres of rocks, woods and moorland and enjoy spectacular views across Nidderdale.

Trish Hamilton, who started as a volunteer 12 years ago, said: “It’s a fantastic place because you meet so many interesting people from all walks of life. It’s a great outdoor experience.”

Despite moving to Hartlepool three and a half years ago, Trish continues to volunteer, making the 120 mile round trip to Brimham two weekends a month to welcome visitors to the site and help direct them to car parking spots.

“Because there are so many fantastic people here, both among the staff and among the visitors, the days just fly by,” she added.

As well as car park welcomers, the site is also in need of shop assistants.

Jonathan Brewer, property manager at Brimham Rocks, said the site is also hopes to recruit a team of volunteers to develop family educational opportunities, such as guided tours around the rocks, craft days and information to visitors about conservation work undertaken at the site.

“We want to meet people who are really enthusiastic about Brimham and willing to commit some of their time to share their enthusiasm about this special place with our many visitors,” he said.

Information on volunteering opportunities will be available from 11am to 5pm next saturday, July 4, near the visitor centre.
