Milestone marked as tenth town plaque goes up

THE tenth Blue Plaque was unveiled in Knaresborough at the weekend.

Members of Knaresborough Civic Society and invited guests attended the short ceremony at Castle Mills, on Knaresborough’s Waterside.

Built in 1764, Castle Mills is a Grade Two listed building. From 1770 to 1972, it was a flax mill producing fine quality linen. It was granted the Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria as ‘suppliers to all the royal palaces.’

After it closed in 1972, it was converted to 21 private dwellings by local builder, Ken Hudson.

Mr Hudson’s son, Nick was delighted to perform the unveiling ceremony of the plaque on Saturday morning.

The Civic Society have a number of further plaques planned for historical points of interest in the town.
