A TALENTED young singer-songwriter from Harrogate’s Ashville College has become an internet hit.

Videos of Lily Kerbey - singing a mixture of original acoustic songs and cover versions – have been viewed more than 150,000 on YouTube.

The A-Level student’s cover version of the Ed Sheeran song, Small Bump, has been viewed more than 30,000 times alone.

Lily, who has never had a singing lesson in her life, only took up the guitar a year ago. An album she recorded, entitled First One, has been downloaded 100 times since going on iTunes two months ago. And, 2,500 individual tracks have been purchased.

Sixteen-year-old Lily, who is studying music, drama, English Language and English Literature at Ashville College, said: “At the age of ten I auditioned for the role of Jesus in theschool’s Christmas production. It was a musical and I have been singing ever since.

“Last year, as a birthday present, my father surprised me with a session in a recording studio, where I made my album. It features five of my own songs and three covers.”

Lily’s first live performance was at November’s Sitting Room Comedy Club, which is run and hosted by former Ashville College Head Prefect Tom Taylor.

She added: “Performing at the Comedy Club was a great experience and I’m hoping to perform at an upcoming local festival. After Ashville I have my sights set on drama college, in the hope of getting into musical theatre.

“My ambition is to carve out a successful musical career writing and recording my own songs.”
