Harrogate Flower Club

THE meeting on June 12 took the form of an Imposed Class, entitled Flotsam and Jetsam. Members taking part were divided into categories – Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced, and each provided with a container, plant materials and flowers. In addition they were allowed to bring a full tool box, but there was no niche. There were five Beginners, five Intermediate and eight Advanced members who participated.

The best in show was to be awarded the Ena Goodall Award so we had an extra incentive to excel! We were allowed one hour to complete our work, which was then judged by Alyson Glanville.

During the judging, our chairman, Pam Kitchen, gave the announcements, the first being to lament the passing of one of our long-serving members – Ann Voakes. Pam advised us that a donation had been sent to the Marie Curie Fund in her memory.

The chairman also mentioned that if there was sufficient interest it was hoped to arrange a trip to Tatton Park in August.

Pam announced that stewards were needed for the Autumn Flower Show (September 12-14) and mentioned that members who wished could enter individually. One of the titles was Pearly Kings and Queens, which would be an interesting challenge.

We were reminded that our next meeting on July 17 would take the form of a workshop entitled Step-by-Step Designs, to be taken from ideas in The Flower Arranger magazine.

We are each to provide all items needed.

At the end of the evening Alyson announced the winners of the various categories and explained her views about each entry. They were Beginners Olwyn Gardis; Intermediate Sue Scholes and Advanced Audrey Walker, who also won Best in Show.
