Harrier hounds class coming to the Great Yorkshire Show
HISTORY will be made on the opening day of this year's Great Yorkshire Show when a competitive class for harrier hounds is introduced.
The harriers will be based and shown in the new Hound Show area, being created at the south west side of the showground, close to the Country Pursuits area.
This new area will form a natural focus for the show's countryside and field sport activities, described by honorary show director, Bill Cowling, as an "integral part of the event".
The opportunity to stage classes came as a result of the cancellation of the 2009 Lowther Driving Trials and Country Fair and it is anticipated that the harriers will become a regular feature on the programme of future Great Yorkshire shows.
As in previous years, classes for beagles will be held on the first day, the foxhound section will be judged on the Wednesday and terriers on the final day.
Mr Cowling said: "We are very much looking forward to welcoming harrier packs to the show. The classes will be held on the first day, Tuesday July 14, and I am sure they will prove hugely popular with both exhibitors and visitors alike."
This year will be the 151st Great Yorkshire Show, and will take place at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, on July 14, 15 and 16.
