Hampsthwaite, Clint And Burnt Yates

Jumble Sale: A Jumble Sale is taking place tomorrow, February 20 at Hampsthwaite Memorial Hall at 2pm. Donations of small items (no large pieces please) can be left at the hall on the morning of the sale.

Village Society Hampsthwaite: Members of Hampsthwaite’s Village Society are making a visit to Alan Ayckbourn’s Absent Friends at Harrogate Theatre preceded by a fish and chip supper at Graveley’s Restaurant on Thursday February 25. The coach will leave the Memorial Hall at 5.45pm.

Diamonds at Darley: You don’t either have to be young or a farmer to enjoy this year’s dance hosted by the Felliscliffe Young Farmers' Club. Last year entertainment was provided by the band the Diamonds who provided live music at its best. They are making a return to Darley Memorial Hall on February 27 at 8pm for this annual fundraiser. Tickets are 12.50 with a reduction for youngsters and the cost includes a wonderful buffet. To reserve places ring 01423 770489 or 770246 but these are sure to go fast after last year’s sell out event.

Hampsthwaite Wild Things: A meeting is taking place on Tuesday March 2, 7.30pm at Village Room to discuss how to raise awareness of local wildlife in and around the village and the possibility of creating a Wildlife Garden in Hampsthwaite. If you are interested and would like further information contact John McPartlan:771365 or e-mail:john@mcparland.net or go along to the March meeting.

Mobile Library: The mobile library is making a visit to our patch on Tuesday February 23 calling at Burnt Yates between 9.35 to 10.15am, New Inn car park between 10.30 and 10.40am, Clint Corner 10.45 -10.55am, Clint Cross 10.45-10.55am and Clint Grange 11.15-11.25am. According to my sheet, it should then go onto the Memorial Hall in Hampsthwaite 12.10-12.50pm, and Brookfield 13.50-14.04pm. I am not sure whether the closure of the road between Hampsthwaite and Birstwith will make any difference to the timings but for more information contact 0845 0349580.

Thank you: Last Saturday evening I had still not bought Paul a card or something to mark Valentine’s Day but Tim up at the New Inn in Burnt Yates came to my rescue with a gift voucher. Paul was delighted so thank you to the staff up there who rallied round in my hour of need.

Hampsthwaite Players: A chance encounter in the post office the other day brought to my attention that tickets either already have or are about to go on sale for the Hampsthwaite Players next production which is due to be staged at the end of March. I hope to have more details for next week. The productions are always extremely popular and tickets sell out fast.

Children’s Church at Burnt Yates: Children’s Church is taking place at St Andrew’s Burnt Yates on Sunday February 21. Children should meet at the church at 9.15am before going across to the Bay Horse Community Centre. They will return to church about 10.30am. Children under school age should be accompanied by an adult. Janet Henderson the Archdeacon of Richmond will be preaching at the service. For details of meetings during Lent, ring Janet Newell on 771683 or Carolyn Lawton on 770701.
