WI News: At the next meeting of Hampsthwaite WI, which will be held on Monday, March 1 at the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm, Alison Moore will be giving a presentation entitled Spanish and Spice. Alison will talk about the history and benefit of liquorice and will also be displaying and selling sweets. New members and visitors will be made most welcome.

YCA News: The ladies of Burnt Yates cum Hartwith Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association are meeting on Tuesday, March 2 when Mr Hughes will be talking about the magnificent restoration of the Royal Hall in Harrogate. The meeting gets underway at 7.30pm at the Bay Horse Community Centre in Burnt Yates.

Hampsthwaite Snooker and Billiards Club: The club is seeking new members who may be interested in joining. Whether you wish to play competitively in the club’s league teams or just socially a warm welcome awaits. The cost of membership is 20 per year for adults and 10 per year for juniors (under 18). Hampsthwaite Players: Those of you with long memories may recall the hilarious Bolt from the Blue which the Hampsthwaite Players brought us a few years ago. Their latest production is by the same author, David Tristam entitled Inspector Drake’s Last Case which is a farcical spoof murder mystery and will be on at the Memorial Hall Hampsthwaite on Thursday to Saturday, March 27 to 27. Performances will start at 7.45pm, with the doors opening at 7pm on all three nights. Tickets are available from members of the cast, Jane at Hampsthwaite Post Office or by phoning Janine on 01423 770604. Phil Scruton has kindly provided me with a synopsis about the play. It is described as “the ultimate Agatha Christie spoof, as Inspector Drake, ably hampered by Sergeant Plod, interviews a colourful confusion of characters. There's Guest the butler, Cook the gardener, Gardner the cook, Butler the guest, and another butler called Shofer.”

Hampsthwaite Village Society: This year’s annual meeting of the Village Society has been brought forward to Thursday, March 4 and will commence at the slightly earlier time of 7.15pm. The Quintessential Singers will provide the entertainment and there will also be a finger buffet with wine. Booking for the Harrogate Operatic Players production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ at Harrogate Theatre on Thursday, March 25 is still possible. The cost, including coach travel, will be 18. Hampsthwaite Wild Things: A meeting is taking place on Tuesday, March 2, 7.30pm at village room to discuss how to raise awareness of local wildlife in and around the village and the possibility of creating a wildlife garden in Hampsthwaite. Bishop James at Burnt Yates: Bishop James will be giving a talk followed by supper at the Bay Horse Community Centre on Wednesday, March 3 at 7pm. Tickets are 5 and available from Janet Newell on 771688. If you cannot get along on Wednesday, Bishop James will also be giving a different talk at the Markington Insititute on Wednesday, March 24.
