Gallery showcases some home-grown talent
THE work of artists from Knaresborough features in the Harrogate Open Exhibition showing in the Mercer Art Gallery.
The work of Jack Banister, Maggie Barnes, plus Julie Bowland's portrait of Maggie, Simon Beer, Simon Crawford, Helen Enty, Ken Fackrell and Andy Northing feature as does work by former artist in residence at Knaresborough Castle in 2005, Edward Webster.
Knaresborough man, Tim Frankland was one of the prize winners this year winning a special commendation and 50 prize for his egg tempera painting My Mother In Our 1960s Kitchen.
The exhibition is a showcase for the district’s talented artists. The 200 top prize went to Adam King from Harrogate, also a former artist in residence at Knaresborough Castle during 2004, for his mixed media work Scape Goat.
517 works of art were entered with187 works by 122 artists selected for showing.
In the Harrogate Open People’s Prize, visitors to the exhibition, which runs till September 12, have the chance to vote for their favourite work.
l The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am-5pm and on Sundays from 2pm till 5pm. Admission is free.
