Farm shop and tearoom planned
A NEW farm shop and tea room could be created in Church Fenton if planning permission is granted.
An application has been submitted to Selby District Council to convert an agricultural building at Sycamore Farm, Brackenhill Lane.
The applicant, Phillip J Harrison, states the lean-to proposed for the development is currently redundant.
The neighbouring shed houses a farm machinery repair business, subsidising the 60 acres of surrounding farm land.
The application states a previous community consultation led to a 30-signature petition being handed to Selby District Council in favour of the development.
It adds: “The whole concept was brought about by the general discussion and the general voiced opinion that something like a farm shop was needed at this end of the village.
“It seems parents bring the children to school from the outlying farms and houses sometimes a distance of some miles. Returning to the farm may then result in being mainly alone for the rest of the day.
“The chance to call for a cup of tea and a natter would be welcomed. It also provides a place to meet centrally for people during the day as well as servicing any passing trade which all brings revenue into the village.”
The application is available to view at Sherburn in Elmet Library during opening hours. To view full details or comment on the application, visit www.selby.gov.uk/planning, quoting reference 2009/1071/COU.
