Cyclist's 350-mile trek to battlefields

A FORMER Harrogate Grammar School pupil is cycling around the battlefields of the world wars to support a charity close to his heart.

Andy Burns, now a flying instructor at RAF Linton on Ouse, will set out on the 350-mile trip in June to raise money for Help for Heroes.

He is one of 300 people completing the five-day expedition.

The route was chosen as a reminder of the sacrifices of people in the armed forces and the charity helps those who have been injured while serving overseas.

Andy said: "I have seen at close hand some of the horrendous injuries received whilst on operations."

He has previously completed three marathons and said he wanted to try something different.

Andy, who also went to Rossett Acre Primary School and whose parents still live in Harrogate, aims to raise 2,000 through the ride.
