Community fund set up for Dales villages

A COMMUNITY fund has been set up for Nidderdale villages by the developers of Knabs Ridge wind farm.

Each year 16,000 will be available for projects in Felliscliffe, Hampsthwaite, Birstwith, Norwood, Menwith with Darley, Haverah Park with Beckwithshaw and Fewston.

This pot, provided by RWE npower renewables, can be used for such things as refurbishing community building, environmental education, or donations to local groups.

Katy Woodington, community benefits officer at RWE npower renewables, said: “The community fund provides a great opportunity for local groups and organisations to access money which will be administered by local people, for their community.

“RWE npower renewables has a track record of supporting community projects and I am delighted to be working with Community Foundation at Knabs Ridge.”

Independent charity the York and North Yorkshire Community Foundation will administer the fund and is setting up a steering group of local people to assess applications and make decisions about how the money is allocated.

The steering group will consist of up to nine members, seven of them living in the local communities which will benefit form the fund.

The other two members will represent Nidderdale Area of Outstanding National Beauty and Harrogate and Area Council for Voluntary Services.

Stephen Beyer from the York and North Yorkshire Community Foundation said: “We will be advertising the places on the steering group through parish council publications, notice boards and voluntary sector networks.

“Anyone interested will need to complete an application form and the steering group will be appointed by the Foundation in association with Harrogate and Area Council for Voluntary Services.”

To find out more about becoming a member of the steering group call Mr Beyer on 01759 377400.
