Arrests at Sandringham Road
FIVE arrests were made by West Yorkshire Police after an incident involving a local resident and young people in Sandringham Road, Wetherby, last Thursday.
A police spokesman told the Wetherby News: “At 2.40pm on Thursday, August 5 police were called to Sandringham Road, Wetherby following reports of anti-social behaviour.
“On arrival there had been an altercation between a resident and a group of young people.
“As a result five males aged 20, 18, 16 and two 14-year-olds were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and have been released on police bail.
“A further two young people, both aged 17, were also interviewed over the weekend.
“The resident, a 47-year-old man, was treated at hospital for minor injuries and enquiries are ongoing.”
Last week’s Wetherby News reported the growing concern of residents in Sandringham Road and the surrounding area about the anti-social behaviour of young people who congregate near the play area.
Coun Alan Lamb, a Wetherby representative on Leeds City Council, is working with local residents, the police, the town council and the Leeds youth service to try to find solutions to the problem.
Residents have complained about alcohol and drug abuse, bad language, verbal abuse and intimidation lasting until the early hours of the morning.
