Armed robbers strike at Otley Road Co-op
A KNIFE-WIELDING robber threatened to kill staff at the Otley Road Co-op store before making off with a bag of cash.
The balaclava-clad man burst into the store at about 7.10pm on Monday, pointing a knife at a woman behind the counter as he demanded she fill a bag with cash from the till.
He then grabbed a second woman, and holding the knife to her throat, dragged her to the counter to collect the money.
He then ran away in the direction of Harlow Drive Road, and may have used a car parked there to make his escape.
Detectives in Harrogate are now appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may have seen the man leaving the store, to get in touch.
Det Sgt Steve Wilson of Harrogate CID said: "Thankfully no one was physically injured as a result of this robbery. However, quite understandably both of the women who were subjected to this robbery were left very shaken and upset by the incident.
"I know that there were other people in the store when the robbery took place and I urge anyone who was in the shop at the time or has any information at all about this crime to come forward immediately so that the offender can be brought to justice."
The man is described as having an olive or tanned complexion and being approximately 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall with a stocky build.
He was wearing a black and white hooded urban camouflage jacket, black trousers and white trainers. His face was mostly covered with a scarf or balaclava.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Harrogate Police on 0845 6060247 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
