Appeal for witnesses

A WOMAN had her handbag snatched and ring wrenched off her finger by a thief in Knaresborough.

The 51-year-old woman had been to buy a newspaper and was walking back to her car past the junction of Fisher Street and Chapel Street, just off the market place, at around 6pm on Sunday, October 23.

A man grabbed her handbag and when she tried to pull it from him he seized her hand and wrested her ring from her finger.

The thief then ran off with the bag and the ring along Chapel Street. He was described as white, in his late teens to his early 20s, slim, 5ft 8in tall, wearing dark jeans and a blue or black hooded top.

The ring was 14-carat gold in a Greek key pattern and the bag was black and contained a red and blue purse and a small amount of cash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the property stolen should contact DC Ross on 01423 53933.
