Anti-sleaze MP backed after expenses revelation

LOCAL Tories are standing by the Skipton and Ripon MP David Curry as he faces an investigation into his expenses.

Mr Curry, whose constituency includes Killinghall and parts of Jennyfield, has been forced to resign his chairmanship of the anti-sleaze watchdog looking into MPs expenses following revelations about his claims mounting to 28,000 for a cottage he owns near Masham.

Mr Curry was also forced to admit details of his private life, after The Daily Telegraph alleged he had used the cottage to conduct an affair.

This week, leaders of the Skipton and Ripon Conservative Association issued a statement saying that Mr Curry, who is due to step down as MP at the next election, still had their full support.

The MP insists he has done nothing wrong and said his expense claims were "modest" and "above board".
