Ambulance hits car at junction
A LUCKY driver escaped serious injury after a car was hit by an ambulance on an emergency call - and ended up balanced on top of a bollard at the side of the road.
This silver Vauxhall was struck as it crossed the Otley Road junction outside the Co-op store at around 2.15pm on Monday.
It spun around and was lifted off the ground by the force of the collision, landing on top of a black bollard where it stayed, precariously balanced, until police arrived.
Paramedics, who had been on their way to an emergency call before the crash, stopped to help straight away, leading the passengers and driver to safety and away from the busy junction.
"The ambulance crew, who were travelling to an emergency with lights and sirens at the time of the collision, reacted immediately to offer assistance to anyone who may have been injured," a spokeswoman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said.
"Another ambulance was deployed to the original emergency and a further crew was sent to the scene of the collision.
"Two adults and a child were treated at the scene for minor injuries and were transported to Harrogate District Hospital for further treatment. Neither member of the ambulance crew was injured."
Police put diversions in place as they cleared the scene of the crash.
