Harrogate’s keep-fit heroes battled it out at the town’s Mr and Miss Fitness 2013 contest.

The overall winner of Mr Harrogate Fitness was Austin Williams.

Ellie Strike was named Miss Bikini.

Joanna Gutwska scooped the Toned Physique title.

Over 500 people came to watch the event, which raised more than £2,000 to be split between charities Yorkshire Cancer Research and Springwater School.

Organisers Jonathan Walker, Joseph Patrick, David Steca and Libby Forbes-Bell were delighted with the turnout.

Jonathan said: “The event was absolutely fantastic.

“We were astonished at the 500 people who took time out of their working week to come and support the 30 competitors.”

“I would like to thank all who entered and who were involved, as well as the Gambaru Fitness staff for their efforts to keep everyone motivated.

“Next year will be bigger and better as we did not realise there was such a big market in the Harrogate area for this truly entertaining fitness based event!”

He added: “So, there will be more competitors, male and female, will take part next year.

“I am sure there will be more giveaways, too, from our supporting nutrition companies Muscle and Fitness magazine and guest posers.”

Competitors contested their events in the Harrogate town centre venue The Viper Rooms.

Overall winner Austin Williams also triumphed in the Over 13 Stone category, while Owen Edwards took the Under 13 stone title.

Stuart Bleasdale was named Mr Athletic, and Tim Yarrow won the Over 40s contest.

Matthew Goodhall topped the Under 21s.

The Over 50s title was won by Simon Piler.

The Harrogate Advertiser reported in May that Mr Piler came fourth in this year’s Mr Southport competition.

On the night, there were guest posers, a bench press challenge, dips challenge and demonstrations.

Jonathan said: “It was such a success that we have already had enquiries about getting involved next year.”

Last month, eight-time winner of Mr Olympia Ronnie Coleman visited Harrogate.

Over 300 fans turned out to meet the champion, who has won the contest more times than bodybuilding actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
