A trapped woman and her young children were rescued by firefighters after a crash in Harrogate last night.

The 36-year-old woman had to be cut free from her car after the crash on A59, while her children, aged one and three, were led to safety.

She was taken to Harrogate District Hospital by ambulance suffering from a fractured left hand, while the children were checked over as a precaution.

Police say the crash, between the Halifax woman’s black Toyota Corolla and a silver Lexus GS300, happened at 5.50pm on Sunday on the Skipton Road at Blubberhouses.

The road was closed at Bolton Abbey roundabout and was later reopened at 7.45pm.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to call TC Andy Macleod of North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference number 12120182243.
