Heavy snow over night caused havoc on roads and public transport across the district.

North Yorkshire Police dealt with 140 weather related incidents over night.

The A59 between Harrogate and Skipton was closed last night (Friday 25 January).

Snow ploughs and gritters have been at work and main and trunk roads across the area including the A59 are now running as normal according to a highways agency spokesman.

The Met Office have released a yellow weather warning for ice across the district today and are urging people to consider whether their journey is necessary before setting off.

Public transport is still being affected by the snow and icy conditions.

Transdev buses struggled with the weather last night, several routes were shortened and services were suspended at 23:20, with the final 36 buses not continuing onto Ripon after it arrived in Harrogate.

Today the 36 bus is running as normal however the number one bus cannot serve Knaresborough estates due to snow and ice and the number three to Jennyfields is unable to serve Harewood Road and Crowberry drive and Saltergate and the number 24 service to Pateley Bridge is suspended for the time being.

National Rail have not reported any problems in the area.

Heavy rain is expected to fall on Sunday from the early hours of the morning. The rain combined with the melting snow is expected to cause localised flooding, the A1 near Catterick, has already been affected by flooding earlier today, it is currently open but with a 50 mile per hour limit.
