Police divers are scouring the River Nidd in Knaresborough in the search for missing Harrogate man Keith David Broadbent.

A specialist police underwater search team has come from Hull to search the river after Mr Broadbent, 61, was reported missing on Tuesday, February 5.

Mr Broadbent, from Kinglsey Road, Harrogate, was described as a “normal hard working man” by police officers. He was last seen by his daughter on Sunday, February 3 driving his blue Fiat Punto along Knaresborough Road between 5 and 6pm.

His car was found in the Conyngham Hall car park, Knaresborough, on Tuesday evening and police believe it had been there all day.

Insp Andy Chapman of Knaresborough police said they were “extremely worried” for Mr Broadbent.

His family – wife and two daughters – are desperate to find him, Insp Chapman added.

“This behaviour is very out of character for Mr Broadbent, and his family are extremely worried. He had been going through some difficulties lately” he said.

On Wednesday, search teams from Swaledale Mountain Rescue helped police scour the banks along the Nidd near the Conyngham Hall roundabout, but found nothing. The following day the underwater search team began by wading the river before divers started a more detailed search.

Insp Chapman confirmed this aspect of the search was looking for a body, because of the length of time Mr Broadbent has been missing and the cold weather, but other enquiries were also being carried out, he added.

Police are also appealing for members of the public and anyone who knows Mr Broadbent to be on the lookout and contact North Yorkshire Police if they see him.

He is described as white, around 6ft tall, with a medium build, blue eyes and dark brown hair.

He was last seen wearing jeans or chinos, a thick oatmeal-coloured jumper and brown shoes. He also wears a wedding ring and a watch with a black strap.

Anyone who thinks they might have seen Mr Broadbent is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police by dialling 101, selecting option 1 and asking for the Force Control Room.
