UPDATE: Serious collision on the A658

A 25-year-old German man died after a serious collision on A658 Harrogate Bypass near Kirkby Overblow.

The man was a passenger in a dark blue German registered Ford C-max which collided with a Toyota Amazon 4 x 4 which was towing a trailer loaded with scaffolding.

Police are not yet in a position to name the man, his family have been notified and are due to travel to the UK today.

The driver of the Ford C-max, a 49-year-old Polish man was taken to Harrogate District Hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Both of the men were working in the UK for a German company.

The driver of the Toyota, a 24-year old man from the Menston area was taken to Harrogate District Hosital where he was detained overnight with minor injuries.

The road was closed for six hours to allow for collision investigators to examine the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered.

The air ambulance attended the scene and fire crews cut the occupants of the Ford from the vehicle.

The Toyota was travelling along the A658 towards Buttersyke Bar and the Ford C-Max was travelling in the opposite direction.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and for anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash.
